About Irminsol Heathen Fellowship
Fall 2007- In late Fall 2007, Woody James and Corbie Williams met through an internet network for Pagans. Woody coming from a Folkish background, and Corbie from a non-Folkish background, began talking and sharing ideas of their vision for a Heathen community and network for the Carolinas. Woody had lived in the Charlotte area for nearly a decade, and Corbie was still fairly new to the region. Woody had made attempts to work with a strictly Folkish group, but was unsuccessful in getting everyone together. Corbie had previously worked with more Universalist Heathens. When this pair began talking, they found middle ground.
Corbie and Woody planned their first Coffee Moot, and though it was low turn out, it was good to meet a few other Heathens. They held their first Blot in April 2008, which was Sigrblot. There were only 3 attendees, but there was good potential. The second Blot turned out with 5 attendees. From there, things started to grow.
In the Fall of 2008, IHF obtained a community/information booth at Charlotte's Pagan Pride Day. There had been a couple other Heathen groups in the Charlotte area in the past. One group had success for some time, but due to lack of a larger Heathen community, it didn't last. The group did have a good standing with the local Pagan community, so IHF had some big shoes to fill. Some individuals in the Charlotte Pagan community had negative feelings toward those that were Folkish. IHF impressed the community in that proving that Folkish and non-Folkish could work together for a common goal. That night, after Pagan Pride Day, Blot was held, and a few Heathens from the Mountains attended.
IHF made sure to have monthly events to keep others interested and active. By Mothernight 2008, IHF had 17 people in attendance. Corbie and Woody had decided not to make IHF a membership based group, but rather a network of Heathens. This provided comfort in that others didn't feel obligation to join a group they did not know well, but also provided an outlet for fellowship, hence the name. There has always been those that came and went, and those that have come and returned. Over the past 3 1/2 years, there have been nearly 50 Heathens that have attended iHF events.
In the Fall of 2010, several events in personal lives and the economy lead to a halt in IHF events. But, most of the Heathens have kept in close contact. It is Fall 2011, and the need for our Folk to come together once again is here. many regional groups and individuals have begun stirring, and new Heathens are found. Some groups are very secretive and selective in who they keep in touch. Irminsol Heathen Fellowship is willing to network with any Heathen individual or group, regardless of affiliation, that can come together in Frith and Grith in order to grow the Heathen community. IHF is not a political group, and does not promote any political ideology or social agendas. Our members (those that are part of the network) come from various backgrounds with differing personal ideology. We put these aside in order to learn, to teach, and to grow as Heathens.
